About DCS Series Air Combat Simulators
If you are new to the this group of simulators there may be a few things you need to know to avoid dissapointment.The simulator will run on most basic PCs that have a graphics card and in the case of Flaming cliffs as little as 1GB of RAM but for the best graphic detail and game play quality it demands a high performance PC.
Further equipment will be needed if you wish to get the best from your flights, a good flight joystick as minimum but a full Hands On Throttle & Stick or (HOTAS) will greatly improve your flight experience and is highly recommended. Most combat pilot activities require that you be constantly looking around you for the enemy, both in the air and enemy ground units. This is available in the basic form via both the keyboard and/or Point Of View (POV) buttons on your flight stick. Some Pilots who are successful using only these input devices for looking about the aircraft but today almost all top pilots use a infra red tracking device to direcly translate their head movements to in game head movement, leaving their hands and fingers free to fly the aircraft and employ weapons etc.
The DCS Series Flight simulators reproduce the physics of flight with a high degree of accuracy and each of the flyable aircraft have their own flight characteristics which is also well reproduced by this sim. We cannot emphasize enough that learning to fly only one aircraft in this simulator will be a great challenge because there is a lot to learn with many skills to develop and master.
By no stretch of the imagination could this combat flight simulation regarded as a quick fix arcade game. If you are seeking quick achievement's and only a basic similarity to flight then this simulator is not for you. Go and get a Playstation!
